FÉSTA has a variety of housing for students, from single-person rooms to two-bedroom apartments. The managing director of FÉSTA is Jóhannes Baldur Guðmundsson, and the operations manager of FÉSTA is Haraldur Krüger. The office is located in D-house on the University campus, and the email address is festa@unak.is.

The University of Akureyri was founded in 1987 and has grown steadily since. It offers a comprehensive range of quality programs in multiple fields of study, with emphasis on personal services and flexible learning. The University has an informative website, and the email address for the international office is international@unak.is. On campus students will find a well equipped gym, a library, and an eighteen-hole disc golf course right outside.

The University has an active student union, SHA. It´s mission is to safeguard students right in cooperation with other student unions and associations, manage complaints and tips from students, and to organize events and social gatherings. There are seven student associations in the University, one for each department, that work as sub-unions within SHA. Students can sign up for SHA and their appropriate student association here. Students can download an e-card from app stores, named Stúdentafélag HA, for special discounts that work all over town. Students can reach out to their student association and SHA (sha@sha.is) with questions, for support, and to connect with other students.

The municipality of Akureyri is in Eyjafjörður, northeast Iceland. It is one of the biggest municipalities in Iceland, known for good weather, swimming pool and skiing area, vibrant culture scene, and, of course, the University of Akureyri. The town is located on Iceland’s route one and it takes 4-5 hours to drive there from Reykjavík. Flying is also an option, and Akureyri airport flies both domestically and internationally. There is also a convenient bus system, that is free of charge, with bus stops located all around town. For more information about Akureyri and all it has to offer, visit the website.

Student housing

All apartments and single-person rooms include an fiber optic cable (i. Ljósleiðari) so residents can make their own arrangements regarding their internet with local providers. FÉSTA also provides kitchen appliances such as fridges, baking ovens and stoves, and laundry rooms in every building with a washer and dryer. Single-person rooms are also equipped with a bed, a desk, and a built-in wardrobe. Shared kitchens have appliances and most utilities, and shared living rooms have sofas, chairs and tables.

As is with most rentals, residents are asked to be respectful of their neighbors. In all FÉSTA houses, house rules apply that are made to make sure all residents are aware of their responsibilities towards their neighbors and their home. Those can be read here. When leaving the student housing, tenants will be asked to refer to a cleaning checklist to make sure that everything is as it should be for the next tenants. The list for rooms in Klettastígur 6 and Útsteinn can be found here, and the checklist for apartments can be found here
Security deposit is paid back few days after the rental period is over, and the residents have returned their room/apartment according to checklist. To be able to transfer the deposit FÉSTA needs the following information:

  • Full name
  • IBAN number
  • Home address.
  • Bank name
